Ferns have a rare opportunity for a HGV Fitter to join our small and friendly workshop team in Wrotham, Kent.
Purpose of role
To ensure the safe and efficient operation of HGVs by performing routine maintenance, diagnosing mechanical issues, and making necessary repairs. The role involves working with a range of heavy goods vehicles, ensuring they comply with all safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, and brake inspections.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on HGVs.
- Replace or repair faulty components, including engines, transmissions, and braking systems.
Inspections:
- Conduct regular inspections of vehicles to identify and fix potential safety issues.
- Ensure all vehicles comply with safety standards and regulations.
Diagnostics:
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately identify vehicle issues.
- Interpret diagnostic codes and data to determine the best course of action for repairs.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
- Document any parts used and time spent on each job.
Compliance:
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Keep up to date with changes in regulations and industry standards.
Customer Service:
- Communicate effectively with customers and supervisors about vehicle issues and repair timelines.
- Provide excellent customer service, ensuring customer satisfaction with repair work.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Vocational training or apprenticeship in automotive repair or a related field.
Experience:
- Proven experience as an HGV fitter, mechanic, or technician.
- Experience with various diagnostic and repair tools and equipment.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in HGVs.
- Experience fitting onboard camera systems an advantage
- Proficient in using diagnostic tools and software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment.
- Capability to work in various positions, including standing, bending, and lying under vehicles.

Working Conditions:
