Meet Dalton. He is the Project Manager running our Heathrow Gas depot. We wanted to find out more about what he gets up to on a day-to-day basis and some of challenges he faces in his role.
What is your role here at Ferns?
I’m a Project Manager. My job involves making sure the yard runs smoothly, our contract with Cadent Gas runs smoothly, and that our client (Cadent Gas) are happy with what we are doing.
How long have you worked at Ferns?
I’ve been at Ferns for 7 years. I started as a Labourer, worked up to a Ganger, then Tarmacker, Planner, then a Manager, and now I’m a Project Manager.
What do you enjoy most about your role here at Ferns?
Working closely with my staff and making sure they are happy. Ending the day knowing I’ve done the best that I can.
What has been your proudest achievement at Ferns so far?
Working my way up to Project Manager.
What are some of the challenges you face in your role? How do you overcome them?
Section 74’s and making sure we don’t get overruns! In this role you’re faced with different challenges every day. Because I’ve done a variety of roles within Ferns, I am able to draw on my own experience in those roles to help others.
What do you do in your spare time?
Football. Gym. Pub.
I’m a big Football fan, unfortunately, I can’t play anymore due to an injury, but I coach Rochester City FC and support Gillingham for my local and Liverpool.
Who inspires you?
My Dad. Although he has been struggling recently with his health, he puts a brave face on and still comes to work every day.
(Dalton’s Dad also works at our Heathrow Gas depot).
